FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY Join the Friends of the Library Current projects Established in 1962, the Friends of the Hillside Public Library is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the Hillside Public Library. The Friends promote the interest and welfare of the library by providing direct financial help so that the library can purchase needed items not available through the regular library budget. The Friends finance their support through proceeds from the annual book sale, the library booth at the Taste of Hillside and the yearly membership dues. In recent years, the Friends have raised several thousand dollars a year for new equipment and computer hardware, a video projector, audio/visual materials, library furniture, canvas book bags, a mural for the Youth Services Department, reupholstering of the library furniture as well as library shelving and support for special events. They purchased the prizes for the 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2007. There is no way the library board and staff can effectively express their gratitude for the hours and hours of work and planning that these generous friends volunteer on the library's behalf. However, it is important that as a library community we acknowledge that without their efforts, the library would be much less effective than it is today. The Friends of the Hillside Public Library foster our library's growth by involving people like you. Besides the important work of providing quality information, a busy library is the center of a healthy community. The Friends is a group that is open to all residents who enjoy using the library. The Friends is a diverse group that, like the library, is a reflection of the entire community. The Friends meet the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the library's small meeting room located in the library's basement. To join the Friends, please print the enrollment form link above, fill it out and send it with your membership dues to the address listed or drop it off at the circulation desk. |
